Book Conditions

The vast majority of books we have in stock are preloved and it is only fair that you are aware of the condition of each title before you purchase.
We would love to be able to upload individual pictures of each one of our books, however with as much stock as we carry that would be near impossible, we do try to use pictures of the specific title, however these are only representative, and you may receive a different variation on occasion.
We follow the guidelines below to describe the conditions of our general used books.

NEW

Only ever brand new.  Direct from wholesaler or publisher

AS NEW

These are books we know to have been owned before, but have no signs of being read - spine will not be broken and there would be little to no signs of shelf wear.  They make great gifts at a bargain price!

VERY GOOD QUALITY These books will show slightly more wear than 'as new'  so will have one or two main creases in the spine and minimal denting or marks in the cover. Pages will be clean and have very little discolouration on the edges.  No more than 1 small sticker or sticker mark
GOOD QUALITY

These books are likely to have more than 2 spine creases but paperbacks will still hold the squared shape well.  Hardbacks will have a dust jacket where appropriate & the cover may have minor cosmetic marks.  Covers may have signs of shelf wear and bumps or creases. May have a small tear in the cover

May have a neat internal inscription.

FAIR These books are in a decent reading condition, but may have some physical condition flaws.  For example they may be quite aged, have some external damage to the cover or could be missing dust jackets or end papers.
WELL READ

These books will have been well loved or sustained damage in storage. They could have rips or tears to the cover.  Internally all in tact but may have inscriptions and/or highlighting.

Books may have shelf damage and foxing or staining to the pages.

OTHER These books will have accompanying photographs or specific descriptions. Usually rarer books, antiques or collectables.  Sometimes used where a book is still internally in very good condition but the cover has been damaged through storage or transit.

BARGAIN BIN BOOKS

(Generally Poor Condition)

These books come with a warning -

These are books that are in fairly poor condition but that still have a read or two left in them.  Usually following poor storage or multiple heavy handed users they could have various areas of damage. (rips/tears to the covers, water damage, spine damage, aged books, excessive library use)

These books would only generally be suitable for a personal reading copy.

Unfortunately it is not cost effective for us to upload an individual photo of each of these books to give a better indication of its particular damage, however, where possible we will try to note the particular damage in each books write up and photos can be provided on request if you are interested in a particular title.

You may also come across books that are ex-library, this will usually mean that they may have stickers on the cover, and usually some sort of stamp on the inner pages.  Any ex-library books will be noted in the description.

Please make sure you are really comfortable with these to avoid any disappointment.  If you are looking for a specific edition or are buying a title as a collectors item please get in contact on customersevice@thebookbrook.co.uk and we can check that the item meets your needs.

We hope you have an awesome time browsing our range looking for your next read, if however you have any trouble, or need any further support, feel free to email us and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you so much for visiting us.
