About the Book:

John Peel was the most influential person in British music.  From Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and T.Rex through to the Sex Pistols, The Smiths and White Stripes, Peel gave them their break on radio.  His broadcasting career began in Dallas, at the height of Beatlemania, thanks to his ‘Merseyside connections’.  Returning to Britain in 1967, his legendary late-night show ‘The Perfumed Garden’ on pirate radio earned him a place at the birth of Radio 1, where he continued to work right up until his death.  From 1998, his multi-award-winning show ‘Home Truths’ on Radio 4 cemented John Peel’s status as a uniquely talented and much-treasured figure in British broadcasting.

Mick Wall talked to many music-industry insiders and colleagues of Peel to build an affectionate and revealing portrait of the committed family man who said he would never retire, but would keep on doing what he was doing until the end.
